Chapter I WOMEN

Women’s Empowerment History

Pre-Sixties Women’s Roles

The Legacy

The rise of the women’s empowerment movement is one of the most prominent highlights of the Sixties. The music reflected this in that era, and has been telling the story ever since. We witnessed a window in time suddenly opening, where young women got to catch an image, a brief glimpse of their mythic potential. Did this create a quantum shift for a certain generation? Did it have a lasting impact on subsequent generations? Was that Sixties decade simply a continuation over the century of wavering attempts to gain rights and respect for women? Or did a particular flowering occur right then? My women's chapter goes into this in great detail, how it was so often expressed in the music.
