Cars changed the world and strongly influenced the birthing of the YOUTH PLANET. With wheels and freedom, guys could revel in their new teenage status. They had the time to explore all kinds of sports and risky pleasures--including the pleasure of the wheels themselves.
Car culture bloomed in the Fifties with the most extravagant vehicles ever made--before or since. The war industry shifted production from weapons to consumer goods--cars instead of tanks. And President Eisenhower launched the vast national highway system in 1955. Suddenly there were drive-through restaurants and drive-in movie theaters that cater to cars. We were on the road and ready to blast off!
